I had the class with this level today and
I enjoyed it a lot. This group is very particular because there is just one
boy, another thing is that the most of them have failed the subject 3 times, so
probably they will not be able to continue with the major, because according to
the teacher, they will fail one more time; so when I was preparing the lesson,
I thought to do something meaningful for them.
I started by
dividing the class in two groups, then I told them some verbs in present tense,
and they had to run and write the verb in the past tense on the board, the
group that wrote the verb correctly got a point, they had fun and I could diagnose
how much they know about the topic. After that, I asked them to work in pairs
and I gave them a crossword in which they had to write the verb in past, they
did it very well, they just made a mistake in one verb. For the next activity, I
gave them a sheet of paper with the lyrics of a song that had some mistakes in
the verbs, so they had to underline the mistakes and correct them. After that,
they played the tic tac toe and I noticed some mistakes there; they had to pick
a piece of paper with a verb in present, then they had to write a sentence
using that verb in past tense, and they had problems doing this, but was harder
for them to write a question; so I tried to explain a little bit and then each
group wrote a question and believe me that they did it very well, they did not
forget the auxiliary this time.
I like this group, because I think it is a
challenge and I love that, because you get experience. You do not know what future
brings to your life, so we have to take advantage of each experience we have.

To start, I must say that I like your quote because we must be inspiration to learn. Geez! That is bad news :S. If they fail one more time, they will have to change their major, but you did well in applying meaningful activities for them. I am sure that with your help, some of them will pass the course, so I encourage you to keep doing well for the students. Good job Almita :). I really liked your activities.
ResponderEliminarSuch a special group you got Alma!
ResponderEliminarWell...for me would be quite difficult to work with them because they may be sure that are destinated to flunk again the basic level and that could lead to a problem because they know that doesn't matter what they do, they will not be in the major anymore.....
You did it great and it is important to do all in your reach becuase they still could learn something if not for the major for life ......
Nice quote gale!
hello Alma! Wow, I see it is a pretty particular group. Nevertheless, I see you put a lot of effort in your class. You tried to make it active and thought-provocking. I like the activity in which you wrote the verbs in the base form and they had to write the past form. I think you developed a good class. You did as varied as possible and that is ok. Hope you keep improving and learning. Well done!
ResponderEliminarHi Almita!!! as you said, they are a very particular group....because just one boy sorrounded by lots of girls!!! jajajaja I had the opportunity to teach them, and even though at the beginning we had a different opinion about them, during my first experience teaching, all my doubts and fears just gone away...I am in agreement with you when you say that they need really meaningful classes, they are not completely bad, but they need a teacher to encourage them and to reinforce them with plenty of practice...It is really sad to hear from the original teacher that they will fail the subject again...and that lead us to think....has been everything a fault from the students or is part from the teacher???? give your best Almita in order to help them to reach their dreams...Congrats!!!!!
ResponderEliminarHello almita!!!
ResponderEliminarI know the group you are talking about. This is a really particular group. I love the way you made them work actively which I consider they enjoy and they find meaningful as well.
I consider this group needs somehow be actively involved in the process. They need to be motivated, and that is something you did really well. I hope the best for you and this group.
