I had my last class with this group the
last Tuesday, and let me tell you that it was a little hard for me to get their
attention, because it was the first day of class, and I noticed that they were
shy, because they did not want to participate and they told me they were tired.
The topic was the future tense (going to,
will and present continuous) and it was a review, so I did not have to explain
it.
As warm up I
performed a ring onion activity and I asked them to stand up and make two
circles, the students who were in the inner circle were called students B and
the other ones students A. They walked while some music was playing and when
the music stopped they had to stop as well, and discuss some questions regarded
to the topic. They had fun with this activity and the teacher told me that he
liked it, but it would have been better if they would have created the
questions. Then, we discussed some questions about the future, but they did not
use the future tense in the most of the answers, so I had to tell them that they
had to pay attention to the structure of the question. After that, I asked them
to make groups of 4 and then I gave them a board game, some beans and a pair of
dices, and they enjoyed the game. At the end, they passed a ball while some
music was playing and when the music stopped the student who kept the ball had
to stand up and choose a paper from the magic bag, the papers contained
questions that students had to answer using the future tense. At the end, I
thanked them for being so kind and participative.
I really
enjoyed the practice with this group, because it was different; they are
participative, but not too much! You have to be a very enthusiastic teacher for
them to participate; I know I have to learn a lot of things, but this
experience was very nice! It was like a challenge, they have some problems with
some topics they have studied before, and this one was not the exception, they
asked a lot of things and you have to be ready to answer! So I learned to read
a lot before teaching with this group and that is great!!
Thank you for your time, thank you for
reading my entry and for your comments! May God bless you all J

Hello Almira! Hey, good job. While reading I imagine yor class and could perceive that was nice. Being very active is pretty cool; however, not all the topics or contents allow you to do this. I know sometimes it's hard to control the group because of the weather, their mood, or any other reason.Nevertheless, I think you developed a great class. It's cool that you read a lot, I have done the same. The more we know, the better our preparation; furthermore, we're the teachers; we're the leaders and we must be sure of what we are doing so that we transmit confidence to our students. Keep working hard Almix!!
ResponderEliminarHello! Alma
ResponderEliminarWhile I was reading your entry, I could see that you developed very nice activities during the class. Specially, I really liked the warm up activity because all the students could participate. Regarding with what you said at the beginning, sometimes; it is very difficult to make students participate because they can feel tired or they have personal problems. But as teachers we always must find a way and be creative in order to make them participate, because it is really important in order that they can have a meaningful learning. Continue doing your best!! BLESSINGS
Hey Almira!
ResponderEliminarYou had some very good activities to develop with your students. Sometimes, students do not want to participate, because as you said, they are shy. This is a very common issue since they are afraid of making mistakes, but you know that they can do it. I really like your activities, and I congratulate you for your attitude towards the situation because you managed it very well as you must do it. Well, the review is a very important part to enhance their learning, so you did an excellent job. Cheers! :D
P.S: I am glad you liked the song in my blog hehehe.
Well done Almita!!!
ResponderEliminarI was there and I enjoyed all your activities as students did despite of the fact that we all were kind of tired of the vacations, it doesn’t sound logical, but that happens; it’s hard to go back to the track in the first day and in the first class.
As I have told you before I’m very pleased to see your growing as a professional teacher inasmuch as in every class you get effort to bring innovated, dynamic and meaningful activities which help the students’ learning as well as the way you developed them improves every time.
Keep on it!!
Hello Almi!!!
ResponderEliminarI like the activities you developed with the students, they sound funny and motivated!!! very good. Well, it is difficult when the the students do not want to participate, sometimes they feel tired but anyways they have to cooperate! that´s why itn is important to prepare many kinesthetic activities for them in order to motivate the class. I already taught that group and they vary in their attitude, sometimes they want to participate but not all the classes with them are the same. But you already had anoter experience, and as you mention, it has been a challenge, i agree with you, every class is a challenge!!! well done Alma!!! keep on working hard!!!!
God bless you my dear friend!!
Hello there Alma!
ResponderEliminarWell, the only thing I can comment is that you are doing a good job, keep on learning from every single class you teach since that will make the basis of a great teacher in you.
Hi almix!!!:.
ResponderEliminarIt is hard to work with those kind of groups, but it is not impossible. The activities you set were very nice. What I would suggest to you is to set always a possitive attitude, remember you are the teacher, and you are the one leading the class.
You perform a board game, I wish I can know more about it. Your students for sure enjoyed.
I know what you mean when you use the word "hard" for sure working with any group is really challenging, but when they don´t want to work is even worst. I can realize that you include really nice activities in which they had to stand up and play, etc, that was a great opportunity for you to make them work in a different way...congrats my dear Soul!!!!
ResponderEliminarHi gal!
ResponderEliminarWell I can notice that this was a really ludic class! I congrat you becuase a class like this demands plenty of energy! I wouldn't be able to develope one. Nice activity the onion circle!
Keep on working hard girl....
