Yesterday, I had my second class with this group. I started my class by
greeting the students, and then we started with the warm up activity. To
introduce the topic, I brought some pictures in which there was a person doing
or making something, the topic was "Make and Do", so I asked the
students to guess what the person in the picture was doing or making; for
example, in an image, there was a person talking by phone and they said that
the boy was making a telephone call. I showed them 10 pictures in that way and I
realized that they already knew something about the topic. I did that activity
to diagnose their knowledge.
After that, I explained the topic, 3 rules for make and 3 rules for do, I
included also some exceptions and after their questions, I gave them a sheet of
paper with some fill in the blanks exercises, in these exercises they had to be
careful with the tenses, and was in this moment when the time started to run
very fast! They had problems not with make
and do, but with the tenses,
they started to make mistakes like “Don´t forget to does your homework” and others, I spent a lot of time trying to
correct them, because it was a hard work in every single sentence, and there
were 10, so I could not finish my lesson one more time. Anyways, it is a nice
experience and I like to learn in every practice I have.
I was going to use a dice in the next activity, 2 faces with make, 2 faces with do, and 2 faces with
the word candy. In this game
students are passing the dice while some music is playing, when the teacher
stops the music, the person who keeps the dice, goes to the front and throws it,
if he/ she gets make, the student
has to tell a sentence using it, the same with do, and if the pupil gets the word candy, you know what happens.
I shared the activities I cannot develop, because of the time, for you
to use them if you like them.
I am eager to read your suggestions and comments, thank you a lot!

Hey little Soul, I really like the activity you included with the dice, they ss enjoy a lot this kind of activities, and even more if you include a prize for them. I used a dice in mine too but without candies jejeje. I can tell you that this is my way of teaching, bringing flashcards, including tpr activities, and of course a lot of participation from the ss...congrats my dear!!!!
ResponderEliminarGood activity!!! Students are eager to have games and vary the class because in that way, they have fun while learning. I still remember the dice we made on the previous semester, and I see you use the material we created. Make and do are always verbs that cause problems when speaking, so it needs to be reinforced. Kee up with the good word Almira! :)
ResponderEliminarHello Almira! hey, I like the first activity; the one with the pictures. I think in that way you really stimulated your students to get ready for the class. Good point there. I know grammar points are not easy to explain; however, I think you did a good job. Be careful with the time; I know some activities are challenging and take more time than we think. You should consider how hard or challenging is something before teaching since that will allow you to think how you can make it seem simple according to the characteristics of the group. keep doing your best Almira!!!
ResponderEliminarHello Alma!!!...
ResponderEliminarAs we don't know the groups we are teaching in a deep way, we don't know how much do they know about something. To develop an activity that can see that for you, gives you the chance to see how much can you cover in a lesson as well of how hard something will be for them.
As George just said, you have to be concious on the time an activity will take as well if your students will be able to make it on the time you have planned.
Since we are getting this opportunities, we are able to improve ourselves and have a better control of the different things we teachers planned to do.
Nice work my friend!!!
HAPPY VACATION!!!
Hello Alma!
ResponderEliminarIt's a shame that you couldn't develop the last activity, but I think you did right. Whenever you have to reinforce something you must do it before going to the next activity. I suggest you to keep that attitude and not to worry about what you didn't do; you should be proud about what you did instead since in the end your Ss never knew that you missed something ;)
Hello my friend!! Congratulations!! You had a great class!! I really liked all the activities that you developed, they were very creative and dynamic, I also enjoyed seeing you more confident as well as seeing your growing as a professional teacher =D
